O is for Osbekia australiana, a pinky-purple, perennial shrub endemic to Larrikia Country at the top end of the Northern Territory, Darwin, Bininj/Mungguy Country in Kakadu and the lands of the Dambeemangaddee, Wunambal Gaambera, and Wilinggin people of the Kimberly region Western Australia.
This 20 x 20 mini acrylic painting is part of an A-Z series showing the diversity and beauty of Australian flora. The artist grew up in Aotearoa New Zealand, and the project was an exercise in learning and appreciating Aboriginal plant lore, and learning more about Australian plant species.
