R is for Rhododendron lochiae, a beautiful and very rare native species of Rhododendron with a unique and specific habitat. This fluorescent red beauty is found wild in rainforests on the tops of mountains in far North Queensland.
This 20 x 20 mini acrylic painting is part of an A-Z series showing the diversity and beauty of Australian flora. I grew up in Aotearoa New Zealand, and the project was an exercise in learning and appreciating Aboriginal plant lore, and learning more about Australian plant species in my adopted home.
