U is for Utania racemosa, a tropical plant with delicate, suspended blooms that look like art nouveau pendant lights. Perhaps the designers and artists of the era were inspired by stunning plants like this one? This beauty is found in the top end rainforests of the Northern Territory and also across Southeast Asia, especially Cambodia and Thailand.
This 20 x 20 mini acrylic painting is part of an A-Z series showing the diversity and beauty of Australian flora. I grew up in Aotearoa New Zealand, and the project was an exercise in learning and appreciating Aboriginal plant lore, and learning more about Australian plant species in my adopted home.
