D is for Doryanthes palmeri, the giant spear lily version of the Gymea/Ki’mea aka Gymea Lily. These beauties are found all up and down the coast of NSW, you can see some giant ones at the Botanical Gardens, and all over the glorious national parks around Gali/Sydney and up and down the NSW coast.
This 20 x 20 mini acrylic on canvas painting is part of an A-Z series of studies exploring the diversity and beauty of Australian flora. The artist grew up in Aotearoa New Zealand, and the project was an exercise in learning and appreciating Aboriginal language and plant lore, and learning more about Australian plant species.
Signed on the reverse by the artist.
